Colours of 2026: Warm, Grounded & Full of Personality

There is something about a new season that makes us want to refresh everything — our wardrobes, our homes and sometimes even our whole mood!

And when it comes to colour in 2026, we are definitely moving away from cold, clinical spaces. Stark whites and icy greys are taking a back seat, making room for colours that feel warmer, softer, richer and much more connected to nature.

Think sandy neutrals, chocolate browns, earthy blues, clay tones and beautiful, saturated greens. These colours create spaces that feel collected and layered rather than overly styled — and I am loving it.

The New Neutrals: Warm, Earthy & Easy to Live With

Neutral certainly doesn't mean boring in 2026.

Warm Khaki & Sand

Warm khaki, sand, oatmeal and natural stone shades are becoming our new go-to neutrals. They still give you that calm, timeless backdrop we love, but without the coolness that grey can sometimes bring into a room.

They work beautifully on walls, upholstery, curtains and larger pieces of furniture and make a wonderful foundation for layering colour and texture.

Chocolate Brown

Brown is officially back — although I would argue that a beautiful brown never really went anywhere!

Deep chocolate, burnt umber, caramel and velvet-brown shades add warmth and sophistication to a space. Used in timber, leather, fabrics or even painted cabinetry, brown creates an immediate sense of depth and permanence.

And no, your whole house does not suddenly need to become brown. A beautiful timber console, chocolate occasional chair or warm brown scatter cushion may be all you need.

Mushroom & Taupe

If you are not quite ready to say goodbye to grey, mushroom and taupe are the perfect transition.

These complex "greige" tones sit somewhere between grey, beige and brown, making them incredibly versatile. They pair beautifully with natural timber, cream, black accents, soft blues and earthy greens.

Blues Are Becoming Deeper & More Soulful

Blue will always have a place in our homes, but in 2026 we are seeing it take on a slightly moodier, more sophisticated feel.

Deep Indigo

Rich indigo and inky blue tones can completely change the atmosphere of a room. They feel calm and cocooning while still bringing plenty of personality.

Try indigo on cabinetry, an accent wall, a beautiful occasional chair or even through artwork and accessories.

Soft, Airy Blues

At the other end of the spectrum, soft powdery and watery blues remain a beautiful choice for bedrooms and living spaces.

They bring freshness without feeling cold and work particularly well when paired with warm whites, sandy neutrals, oak and natural textures.

Nature-Grounded Accent Colours

This is where 2026 becomes really interesting.

Terracotta & Clay

Terracotta, clay, plaster pink and earthy red-browns bring such gorgeous warmth into a room.

They work wonderfully with natural stone, timber, linen and textured finishes and are particularly beautiful in rooms where you want to create a relaxed, welcoming feeling.

Rich Greens

We are moving away from the grey-green sage shades we've seen everywhere over the past few years and towards deeper, richer greens.

Think smoky olive, moss, forest and slightly golden greens — colours that feel like actual vegetation rather than muted pastels.

Used carefully, these greens can make a home feel incredibly sophisticated and connected to its surroundings.

And Then… A Little Fun

Not every colour decision needs to be sensible.

One of my favourite trends for 2026 is using small unexpected pops of colour in otherwise calm interiors.

A pistachio-green lamp.A merlot-red occasional chair.A colourful piece of artwork.A patterned cushion.A painted side table.

Those little moments are often what stop a home from looking like a showroom and start making it feel like you.

Nervous About Using Colour? Start Small.

Colour doesn't have to mean painting an entire room.

If you're hesitant, introduce it through pieces that are easy to change — cushions, throws, artwork, lamps, rugs, ceramics or an occasional chair.

Then anchor those colours with trusted neutrals such as warm white, cream, navy, beige, taupe or soft grey.

Colour should be fun, not intimidating.

My Favourite Colour Advice for 2026

Don't decorate according to a trend simply because someone has declared it "the colour of the year".

Use trends as inspiration.

Choose colours that work with your home, your natural light, your existing finishes and — most importantly — how you want the space to feel.

The most beautiful homes are rarely created from one perfect colour palette. They're created by slowly layering tones, textures and pieces that feel personal.

And that is exactly what the 2026 colour direction is about — warmth, nature, comfort and personality.
